Four arrested on Kingsley manslaughter charges

Four police officers have been arrested on suspicion of the manslaughter of Birmingham dad Kingsley Burrell, who died in custody two years ago. 

The West Midlands officers were also being quizzed by investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission on suspicion of gross negligence and misconduct in a public office.

The four were due to be interviewed by the IPCC last month, but allegedly refused to co-operate and left an arranged meeting. The officers were arrested yesterday in the West Mercia force area and were last night being interviewed by investigators from the police watchdog.

Angry bereaved families march on Downing Street

On Saturday 27 October, over 500 people gathered to march from Trafalgar Square to Downing Street for the annual United Families and Friends Campaign remembrance procession for those that have died in state custody.

The march made its way slowly down Whitehall, led by the sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of those  that have died. A symbolic coffin on which was written all the names of the deceased was carried.

The march was joined this year by new families as well as those veterans that have marched each of the last fourteen years that the commemorative march has been held.

Fathers Day vigils make a mark

Birmingham Fathers Day Vigil 2012On 17th June 2012 people gathered at peaceful vigils to remember fathers that have died in police, prison, mental health and immigration detention.

These nationally organised peaceful vigils took place simultaneously in Manchester, Birmingham, Central London, Brixton, Tottenham, Sheffield, Slough, High Wycombe and a number of other locations.

Tippa Naphtali, Mikey Powell Campaign & 4WardEver UK said; “These deaths have just got to stop. Family campaigners need to take matters into our hands in a manner more unprecedented than anything seen before. We need to adopt intelligent and collaborative responses, working with a single vision and strategy”.
